A Message from IALL's President Elect, Read Gilgen of UWisc-Madison

The last time I looked, NERALLD was still a regional group of IALL, the International Association for Language Learning Technology. I believe you are the oldest and most independent of all the regional groups, but I urge you nonetheless to look to and take advantage of what IALL has to offer.

The best immediate source of IALL information can be found on the web at which has been enhanced recently with new and up-to-date information. For example:

-Contact people
-Current news
-Links to regional group sites
-Link to the LLTI Listserv
-Link to the Software Database
-Link to The IALL Journal

IALL has been working hard lately to make sure the Current News is indeed current and useful. There you can find news tidbits, a current calendar of events, job announce-ments, and much more. Did you know, for example, that this fall we have posted more than 15 job openings (language technology only)? We've posted guidelines for planning a conference, and hope soon to post other interesting and useful information. If you have suggestions, or if you want to add calendar or other information, please contact me directly <read@lss.wisc.edu>.

Stay in touch. IALL & NERALLD need you!

IALL Language Laboratory Design Kit -- The Design Kit is available for $15. to IALL members, $25. to non-members.

Volunteerism is alive and well in NERALLD! Special thanks to Mary Fetherston, new member, Guest Editor and Interim Lab Coordinator at URI, and to Dick House who will do a stint as Guest Editor of the follow-up newsletter. Also appreciated are Irene Starr and (your name here!), who will be taking notes at the upcoming meeting.

WHERE TO PARK AT HARVARD
Directions to the Business School Parking Lot:
Please Read This Before Looking at Maps

If you are coming from the east or west, you will end up on Storrow Drive. When you see signs for Harvard Square, Cambridge, go to outside lane (don't use underpass). This part of Storrow Drive becomes Soldiers Field Road. Follow arrows pointing to North Harvard Street. Go down North Harvard Street (less than 1/2 mile), Harvard Stadium will be on your right. Just before you reach the end of the stadium, there's a narrow street on the left. There's no sign but there is an old-fashioned lamppost with a red sign on it that says VISITORS' PARKING LOT. Take that left, go to the guard's booth, mention the NERALLD conference, then go to the Visitors' Lot. The shuttle bus stop is across the street from the last row.

If you are coming from the north or south, get to Harvard Square, go down John F. Kennedy Street, cross the Lars Anderson Bridge and you will be on North Harvard Street. Proceed as indicated above.

Please make sure you get on the bus that goes to the Lamont Library! The space has been reserved for you from 8am to 8pm. It's a pleasant walk to Lamont, if you have the time.
