From the President of NERALLD: Happy October and congratulations, everyone! We've survived the first hectic month of yet another academic year. Time to celebrate! And so we will on November 8th at the University of Massachusetts Amherst where we'll gather to celebrate language learning while examining ways to "sell -ebrate" (a.k.a. "promote") our facilities and the work we do. Many thanks to our gracious host Irene Starr, to Bruce Parkhurst, program chair, and to our generous presenters for what will undoubtedly be quite the celebration/sell -ebration. (See the program agenda on page 3. Note, too, the lunchtime meeting of our K-12 Special Interest Group.) Care to make a valuable, personal contribution to the success of the day's event? Be sure to complete the questionnaire on page 6 and submit it with your registration form to me by Friday, October 25th. In return you'll receive the personal satisfaction of knowing you helped shape a NERALLD program and also, at no cost to you, a UMass Amherst parking permit for 11/8/02! Also, be sure to turn to "Business Matters" on page 2 for a preview of 11/8 business meeting agenda items - including the all-important election of your next President and appointment of a new Newsletter Editor. Nominations, anyone? The Prez Sez: Don't miss the NERALLD "Fall sales event" happening at UMass Amherst, Friday, November 8, 2002. You could walk away a winner and carry home a truckload of knowledge about self-promotion and strategies for championing the cause of language learning with technology!
