New England Regional Association for Language Learning Technology       Winter 2008 Newsletter

President's Message
Well, yet another Autumn has come and gone, along with yet another stellar NERALLT conference at Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vermont. John Graves, our new NERALLT Secretary, outdid himself as host, as did Audrey Sartiaux, doing double duty as our new Program Coordinator AND chair of the Planning Committee. Barbara Lindsey, as member of the Planning Committee and Newsletter Editor, provided the third support for the event.

This "wearing of two hats" phenomenon is the result of the new Board Structure of NERALLT. The organizers of the event had already agreed to their duties before being elected to the NERALLT Board.

I believe I speak for these three individuals in saying that one hat will be just fine in the future. This is why I'm very happy to report that Emmanuel Paris-Bouvret of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut has agreed to serve as host for our Spring Meeting. (More on the Meeting below.) We are currently firming up the topic of said meeting and would welcome input.

A number of suggestions were put forward at Saint Michael's, including borrowing a page from the Educause Horizon Report and focusing on one or more of the "Six Technologies to Watch."

These are listed below in section 4 of the report on our Business Meeting: Topics for the Spring NERALLT Meeting.

As readers will notice, the Saint Michael's NERALLT Conference has already addressed the second of these technologies, though John de Szendeffy, in giving the Keynote Address, pointed out that Social Networking (Web 2.0) is more of an "attitude" than a technology.

We will very shortly be sending out a request not only for suggestions as to the topic of our Spring Meeting, but also for help in organizing it. I can't stress enough the importance of having 4 or 5 of you
